Comprehensive Teeth Cleaning

Even with regular brushing and flossing tartar and plaque can build up over time on your teeth and near the gum-line. This is what causes cavities and gum disease if left alone. A professional cleaning is recommended every 6 months to remove the build-up and provide you with a healthy smile.

  • Thorough examinations are performed at every appointment to assure the health of your teeth and gums.
  • Each of our licensed Dental Hygienists have over 20 years of experience.
  • Ultrasonic Scalers and Prophy Jet are just a couple of the advanced tools we use regularly.
  • Each room is equipped with a TV and headphones for your comfort.

Exam

There are a variety of serious health problems that can be detected in your mouth. A thorough exam and consultation with one of our doctors will provide you the comfort and assurance that your mouth is healthy and happy which contributes to your overall health. Our exam includes:

  • Oral cancer screening
  • Check vitals
  • Cavity check
  • Digital X-Rays (uses much less radiation)
  • Charting past and present dental procedures
  • Gum-line probing and depth check
  • Patient education

Sealants

Sealants are a plastic coating that fills in the very hard to reach crevices of your molars. They form a protective layer similar to a clear coat on your car's paint, or a shield protector on your smart phone. Without it, bacteria and plaque can begin to penetrate your tooth and cause tooth decay and cavities.

Comprehensive Periodontal Evaluation

Gum disease is a very serious health risk and a periodontal evaluation is where a hygienist will check the depth of the pockets in your gum-line. It is painless and they take a very thin probe and check all around each tooth for enlarged pockets. The normal depth is 3 millimeters or less, and deeper pockets can be indicators of more underlying problems such as gingivitis(or gum disease).

A normal cleaning will include scaling where we remove the tartar from below and above the gum-line. If you are a candidate, the doctor may recommend a Periodontal Deep Cleaning. Deep cleanings will include a Root Planing which is where we will clean and smooth out the surfaces of your roots. A needle-free anesthesia can be used if necessary.

Night Guards and Sleep Apnea

Anti-snoring and Dental Sleep Apnea Devices

Approximately 1 in 7 people suffer from the problem of loud snoring and sleep apnea. The condition is caused by an inability to keep  the airway completely open for breathing while sleeping which cuts off the brain's supple of oxygen until it sends a signal to wake up or gasp for air.  This cycle happens again and again throughout the night. Simple snoring is mostly a problem for the person that is sleeping next to you or within earshot. Sleep Apnea is a more serious issue because it is known to lead to  problems like high blood pressure, weight gain, dementia and memory loss, and heart attack and stroke, to name a few.  A dental device can be custom made for patients that want to reduce snoring or have sleep apnea and  are unable to sleep with a C-Pap machine. The  dental appliance consists of two plastic retainers that fit over both upper teeth and lower teeth and re-position the lower jaw in a forward position which helps to open the airway.

Night-guard

A night-guard is an appliance that is placed in the mouth on top of the teeth to help reduce grinding and clenching ( also known as bruxism) while you are sleeping. The grinding and clenching of your teeth, day or night, can cause cracking and chipping of the enamel. This destructive habit also causes headaches, jaw pain, sore muscles, and toothaches. It's best to have a dentist evaluate whether your enamel is showing signs of normal wear and tear or if there is excessive damage from clenching and grinding. It is important to know that an ill-fitting night-guard can cause your jaws to sit in a misaligned position throughout the night which can result in additional  pain and strain on your jaw joint.
